The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in collaboration with Gogetit Investment Ltd, has concluded plans to train a total of 2,300 agents in Benue state to educate the people to adopt and migrate to use of digital economy known as the e-Naira.
The e-Naira wallet is a programme from the CBN which is an Application that is used for financial transactions.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Gogetit, Mr Orkuma Hembe, who spoke at a one-day workshop on adoption of the e-Naira said “We are here to educate people on how they can migrate from physical economy to digital economy.
“The e-Naira has come to stay because of the cashless policy as supported by the government and it is designed such that those in the rural areas and people without Android phones can also participate in this new naira regime.
“We are here to educate people, train and teach them on how to utilise and navigate through the e-Naira platform as introduced by the federal republic of Nigeria.
Hembe who stated they intend to train at least 100 agents in each of the 774 local governments across the nation, said the trainees will serve as extension of central bank who will provide basic services to communities, markets localities, provide basic services on how to use the e-Naira and also transact the e-Naira.
He said those to be trained include members of Motorcycle Hirers Association, Agri-produce Association of Nigeria, National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW), amongst other groups.
“We are going to take the message to hinterland so that people can quickly migrate to the e-Naira platform to ease the pain they are currently facing with other apps.
Branch Controller, CBN, Benue state, Mr. John Itaha who disclosed this in Makurdi while speaking to newsmen, explained the function of the e-Naira.
He said “if you have money in your normal bank account, instead of using your ATM card, you can move the money to your e-Naira wallet platform and then, conduct your transaction and it is the same value, more possibilities without extra charges unlike the other platforms where charges are applied.”
“We need more adoption. A lot of people need to adopt because it has more advantage to the populace in Nigeria than the other existing apps that people are using.
“The e-Naira wallet can function once you have a phone even if it is not an Android phone, as far as you have the e-Naira wallet installed on it, you can use it in the most remote village as far as you can connect to the network,” he said.
