Federal Fire Service (FFS) has said that investigation into the fire involving a petroleum tanker at AYM Shafa Filling Station, beside the FCT-IRS Office, along Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti Way, Area 3, Garki, Abuja, has commenced, assuring that the fire has been successfully extinguished.
Controller-General (CG), FFS, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, who served as the Incident Commander, personally co-ordinated response operations at the scene and remained there until the early hours of today to ensure the incident was fully brought under control.
In a statement, the fire involved a tanker carrying approximately 60,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) during product discharge. The fire, the statement, noted, affected parts of the adjoining FCT-IRS three-storey building before it was successfully contained through the co-ordinated efforts of firefighters using multiple firefighting appliances, medium water jets and foam compound.
“Four adult males sustained various degrees of injuries. They were promptly evacuated by a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) ambulance to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment and have since been discharged” FFS, said.
Following a thorough inspection of the scene, firefighters confirmed that there was no further fire or casualty, and all responding personnel and appliances have safely returned to their respective stations.
“FFS sincerely appreciates residents, motorists and members of the public for their patience, co-operation and compliance with safety directives throughout the emergency operation. Your understanding and support greatly contributed to the smooth conduct of the response.
“The service also extends its gratitude to sister emergency response agencies, including the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service, NEMA, the Nigeria Police Force and other supporting organisations whose collaboration contributed significantly to the successful management of the incident” the service, explained
Meanwhile, the CG has commended all firefighters and emergency responders for their courage, professionalism, discipline and unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.
“An investigation has commenced to determine the immediate and remote causes of the fire. The outcome will help guide appropriate preventive measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
“The FFS remains committed to safeguarding lives, property and critical national assets through prompt, professional and co-ordinated emergency response” the service, stated
