Fire kills 2 in Borno, razes state transport workshop

Separate fire outbreaks have  hit Borno towns, killing two people and injuring many others.

The fire outbreak occurred at Kalari, a suburb of Maiduguri, located at Konduga Local Government on Sunday.

Residents said three people including a child were victims; some were  injured and  many houses  were destroyed.

Head of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Ali Isa, while confirming the incident, said two people lost their lives, addit tha the fire spread quickly because of cluster houses in the community. 

“We have responded to the fire incident that occured at Kalari in Konduga; two persons lost their lives and other sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the SEMA head disclosed.

Fire also broke out at the Borno Transport Corporations Mechanical workshop situated in the metropolis on Monday afternoon. Many service machines, equipment, tools and motor spare parts worth millions were destroyed.

Personnel of the State Fire Service were battling to put off the fire when the reporter visited at noon yesterday. The cause of the fire is yet -to- be ascertained.
