Fifteen year-old- son of a senior police officer died, yesterday, in a fire incident which engulfed their residence at Falomo Police Barracks, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, and his management team has paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officers, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ikoyi, got information about the fire incident on Tuesday, at about 12.40pm from Falomo Police Barracks.
He said the DPO was informed that about 9pm, fire gutted Room 24, Block 1 of ASP Godspower David, attached to Bar Beach Police Division, Victoria Island, Lagos. He said based on the report, teams of policemen and other emergency responders were mobilised to the scene for rescue operation.
“The teams successfully put out the fire, however, during evacuation of the debris, the body of Emmanuel Godspower David, 15 , son of the officer consumed by the inferno, was found. The body has been evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy, while investigation is in progress,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Idowu Owohunwa, yesterday, visited the bereaved officer at Falomo Police Barracks with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Isa Grema, for condolences.
Owohunwa, who was received by the officer and wife, said he got the information on Wednesday with sadness and decided to visit them in person due to the great loss.
He said he was not much concerned about the property burnt, as the officer could buy another property, stressing that he was concerned about the life lost in the inferno.
