Property worth millions of naira were lost in the early hours of Tuesday when a fire outbreak razed a one-storey commercial building housing computer, phone and accessories dealers on Somoye Osundairo Street, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos.

However, it was learnt that no life was lost in the incident.

In a preliminary incident report, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it received a report of a fire incident at 1:38 am.

It said personnel from the Ikeja and Bolade fire stations responded to the incident at 1:45 am.

Controller General of the service, Margaret Adeseye, who signed the report, said the fire was caused by electrical upsurge resulting from negligence.

In its preliminary incident report, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the high volume of combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

“Upon arrival of the LASEMA Response Team at the incident scene, it was observed that a fire outbreak had occurred in a one-storey commercial building accommodating dealers in computers and accessories in Computer Village, Ikeja.

“Responders observed active flames and dense smoke, indicating intense combustion within the structure. The high volume of combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of fire,” the report signed by Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu reads in part.
