From Bamigbola Gbolagunte, Akure
AN inferno has gutted Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s office located at Alagbaka area of Akure, the state capital.
The fire, which lasted for about 30 minutes, caused serious confusion among workers, political functionaries and visitors at the governor’s office.
The incident also disrupted the visit of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu-Sherif who was being hosted by Mimiko when the fire started.
Mimiko and Sherif, with their security aides, scampered for safety, just as the meeting organised for the visiting PDP national chairman was disrupted when the fire started.
Although the cause of the inferno could not be ascertained as at press time, it was gathered that an electricity surge might have caused the fire.
It, however, took men of the state fire services about 30 minutes before the fire could be brought under control.
The state government, it was gathered, has set up a committee to investigate the cause, with a view to determining factors responsible for it.
It was learnt that valuables belonging to the state government were destroyed in the inferno.
