A fire outbreak has occurred at the Abbatuwa Cemetery in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

A statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, said the inferno destroyed parts of the cemetery, adding that several sections were badly affected.

The statement noted that the fire quickly spread across the cemetery due to the presence of dry grasses within the premises.

It attributed the cause of the fire to human factors but expressed relief that no life was lost and no one was injured.

“Our men commenced operations and ensured that the fire was contained in good time,” the statement said.

“In view of the aforementioned, the Fire Service strongly warns members of the public, particularly smokers, to stop smoking or carrying naked flames within cemetery premises and other areas with dry grasses in order to prevent future occurrences,” it added.

The Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the lives and property of the general public.
