Fire destroys goods worth millions at Kano market

Property worth millions of naira were yesterday razed by a midnight fire at a makeshift market along Murtala Mohammed Way in Kano metropolis.

Items destroyed by the inferno included furniture, office equipment, and household effects.

Saminu Abdullahi, spokesperson of the Kano Fire Service, said in a statement that the fire was caused by electric spark. He added that it started from the market.

He stated that the fire, which began at about 11pm on Thursday later spread to the upper floor of KANAWA building, as well as two stores on the ground floor.

Victims of the fire tragedy were sighted on Friday morning counting their losses and bemoaning their fate. A trader, Sani Umar said he lost everything.
