A fire broke out on the roof of Somerset House in central London on Saturday, prompting a significant response from the London Fire Brigade (LFB). The fire was first reported at 11:59 am.

Fifteen fire engines and approximately 100 firefighters were deployed to the scene. Firefighting crews from Soho, Dowgate, Islington, and surrounding stations worked to contain and extinguish the blaze. Two of the LFB’s 32-meter ladders were used to provide access to the roof and combat the fire.

An LFB spokesperson confirmed, “Crews are tackling flames located in part of the building’s roof.” The spokesperson also stated that the entire Somerset House site had been closed to the public as a result of the fire. Traffic in the surrounding area was heavily impacted by the emergency response.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Authorities are investigating the incident.
