The University of Calabar Alumni Association has challenged the management of the institution to find a solution to the ongoing predicament of over 300 dentistry students whose admission is hanging in the balance.
The association also expressed its readiness to work with the UNICAL management in finding solutions to the admission crisis.
A statement by the National President, UNICAL Alumni, Paul Eshiemomoh and the National Public Relations Officer, Augustine Ukandu, said the attention of the association had been drawn to the ugly news both in the conventional and social media, about the fate of the faculty of dentistry students and graduates of the university arising from over admission of students and over shooting of the admission quota assigned by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
The one-page statement captured the travails of the University of Calabar dentistry students and graduates.
“The alumni have painstakingly investigated the issue by engaging with all the stakeholders, including the students, the school, the college management and the staff of the university.

“The alumni avers that what has happened is really unfortunate and is a smear/dent on the coveted image and integrity of our alma-mater.
“The alumni association whole-heartedly conveys its sympathy and solidarity to all the affected students and graduates in their trying moments,” it stated
The body explained that it was ready to offer its services by way of suggestions and contacts to the university to ensure that a lasting solution was found to the problem as well as to ensure that none of the students and graduates suffers needlessly.
It advised the university and college managements to take urgent steps towards finding an enduring solution to the quagmire.
“We further call on the university management not to spare any office/persons found to be culpable in creating this distressing situation for the university,” the alumni warned.
