Finalists have started to emerge at the ongoing Providus Bank Tennis Grand Slam competition that started on October 19 at the Ikoyi Club 1938.
After three intensive match days, smashers are now moving into the quarter and semi final stages in their respective categories.
In the singles event, some ladies have now booked their tickets for the last eight stages just as some men are now into the last four stages of the highly interesting competition.
Datare Ojo in the Ladies cadre defeated Fonahamioluwa Williams 6/2, 6/4 to move into quarterfinals along with Oluwawemimo Ogunsanya who defeated Mobolaji Edwards 4/6, 7/5 (scratch). There was also victory for Oluchi Igwe who had an easy victory of 6/1, 6/2 over Yewande Adefarasin.
In the Men’s Singles B cadre, Okonkwo Uchenna was too hot for David Agiddi as he swoops into the semis with a victory margin of 6/2, 6/1 while Azubuike Okonkwo defeated Ayodele Akintoye 6/3, 6/2 just as Felix Akoh defeated Vishal Kirpalani 7/6, 6/1.
Also in the same cadre, Ayo Oludemi defeated Hilary Eledu 6/1, 6/2 to join the list of men’s smashers in the last four stages.
The Games Captain, Tennis Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Azu Okonkwo, said the Grand Slam event would promote inclusiveness as about 75% of the participants will be rewarded with exciting Corporate Gifts, Prizes and Trophies courtesy of ProvidusBank.
