Semifinalists have emerged at the ongoing 2026 Louis Edem West Africa Basketball Championship with visitors Ghana Braves making it to the last four.
On Thursday, Ghana Braves started the day with 10 points defeat of Bayelsa Whales, beating the Nigeria side with 47-37 points to march to the semifinals of this year’s edition of the championships.
Also qualifying to the semifinal is two-time Zenith Bank Women Basketball League, MFM, who defeated another Lagos-based side, Dolphins 58-30, to secure a final four position in the tournament while Victoria Queens floured Sho’s Foundation 72-32.
The final quarterfinal game saw First Bank emerging winner against Showtyme, thrashing their opponent 74-37 to secure a final four spot.
The semifinal games will see Ghana Braves facing off against First Bank with the game starting by 12noon at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere while the second semifinal is between MFM and Victoria Queens with the tipoff at 2.00pm.
Speaking with our correspondent, the sponsor of the competition, Louis Edem Ekpenyong, said he would continue to give his best to the development of basketball in Nigeria.
According to him, the West Africa Basketball Championship, an annual international tournament continues to bring together elite clubs and players from across the region.
“We have so many youths hoping to make headways in basketball and we as an organisation continue to put a lot of efforts in making their dreams into realization,” he said.
“People are looking forward to an interesting semifinal with the best teams expected to make the final taking place on Saturday.”
