The Federal Government has concluded its evacuation of Nigerians stranded in South Africa, with the final repatriation flight arriving at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, carrying 308 returnees.
The aircraft, which also conveyed three government officials involved in the operation, landed at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, bringing the total number of Nigerians repatriated during the exercise to more than 1,500.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, commended President Bola Tinubu for authorising the evacuation, describing the intervention as a timely response that helped protect Nigerians affected by recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
She said the President’s decision to extend the evacuation beyond the June 30 deadline issued by anti-migrant groups reflected his commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians facing crises abroad.
The minister also welcomed the returnees and expressed appreciation to Nigerian officials in South Africa for coordinating the evacuation process and ensuring the safe return of the affected citizens.
