An artiste, Anthony Odunze, has said that the only way insecurity could be drastically reduced in the country is for the federal government to tackle unemployment among the youth.
Odunze, who is a comic actor and internet sensation, speaking at a youth engagement programme, said that once unemployment is defeated, insecurity would become a thing of the past.
While emphasising that no excuse is good enough for any deviant behaviour, he was however of the opinion that one of the propelling forces for most misdemeanours is idleness, as an idle mind is always the devil’s workshop.
He also surmised that most youths who go into crime are mostly driven by peer pressure.
Odunze, who is popularly known as Prophet Rolex, said, “Everybody is not built up strongly like some of us. From the beginning, I said I wasn’t going to take to crime. I believed in myself and worked very hard to get where I am today, but there are many youths out there who are not strong-willed. They can’t withstand the pressures of life. They have resorted to crimes, and it is affecting our country.”
He encouraged the youth to take advantage of the digital age to earn a living.
“Today social media and forex trading are paying people very well. I am asking you to also embrace the numerous opportunities in the digital market. Don’t wait any longer for the government jobs which are never coming. You have great potential in you. Use it and make something great for yourselves, families and the society at large.
