Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi has consoled the Argentine team after their loss to Morocco in the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Morocco’s Yassir Zabrini grabbed a first-half brace to secure victory for the North African nation and deny Argentina, who are the most successful team in the competition with six titles.

Messi, who won the U-20 World Cup in 2005, urged his compatriots in the 2025 squad not to give in to despair.

He urged them to take pride in their dedication to defending the nation’s shirt at the tournament despite the outcome.

In an Instagram post, he said, “Heads up, boys!!!! You had an incredible tournament, and even though we all wanted to see you lift the trophy, we’re left with the joy of everything you gave us and the pride of seeing how you defended the sky blue and white with your hearts.”
