FIFA U-20 World Cup: Messi backs Argentina ahead of final against Morocco

Eighth-time Ballon D’Or winner, Lionel Messi has congratulated Argentina’s U-20 team on reaching the finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Diego Placente-tutored team defeated Colombia 1-0 in the second semi-final on Thursday courtesy of a 72nd-minute strike from Mateo Silvetti.

Silvetti, 19, is Messi’s teammate at MLS side, Inter Miami.

The Argentines will face Morocco in the final on Sunday.

Morocco defeated France 5-4 on penalties in the first semi-final clash on Wednesday.

Taking to Instagram, Messi, who won the U-20 World Cup in 2005, congratulated his compatriots on reaching the 2025 final and Silvetti on scoring the lone goal that made it possible.

He said, “Let’s go to the finals! Congratulations to everyone! Great @toto.silvetti.”

Argentina are the most successful team in the tournament, grabbing an impressive six titles.
