Nigeria’s Super Eagles have fallen to 30th place in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings after a challenging few weeks under coach Eric Chelle.
The three-time African champions lost four spots following a tough international period that started with a promising win over Madagascar but was overshadowed by a heavy defeat in Guinea-Bissau.
Published by FIFA on October 7, the latest rankings show Nigeria behind Côte d’Ivoire, which moved up to 29th, and Algeria, now 28th. The Super Eagles entered this period at 26th worldwide and fourth in Africa.
This decline marks a notable reversal from Nigeria’s position in July when they were 26th globally with 1,585.2 points after a 2-1 friendly loss to Portugal in June. Before the recent slump, Nigeria had already fallen behind Egypt in Africa, despite maintaining their global ranking.
