FHA develops housing estate in Abuja to tackle deficit

As part of plans to reduce the housing deficit in Nigeria, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), at the weekend, performed the groundbreaking of Wasa Estate, Abuja with a total of 213 housing units.

The groundbreaking which was done in partnership with Greenpastures Homes is expected to tackle the nation’s housing challenges by providing affordable and quality housing for Nigerians.

Speaking before the groundbreaking was performed, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FHA, Oyetunde Ojo, said that the authority remains resolute in the resolve and pursuit of the mandate given to the authority by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to not only facilitate hard access to decent housing and to bridge the housing deficit in Nigeria, but also to revitalise and turn FHA into a viable and performing government agency.

Ojo who was represented by the Executive Director, Estate Services, Nya-Etok Ezekiel, added that beyond providing homes, the project has ripple effects on the value chain.

“It will create employment opportunities for artisans, engineers, architects, surveyors, suppliers, and numerous other professionals throughout the construction period. It will stimulate economic activities within Wasa and its environs while contributing significantly to the development of the Federal Capital Territory.

“I wish to commend Greenpasture Homes Limited for its confidence in the FHA and for its commitment to delivering a project of this magnitude” he said.

In his remarks, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of Greenpastures Homes, Oloyede Omowaiye said that of the 213 units, there are 80 units of two-bedroom apartments, 56 units of three-bedroom apartments, 35 units of three-bedroom terraces duplex, 45 units of four-bedroom terraces duplex.

These housing options, he submitted, provide flexibility for young professionals, growing families, first-time house owners, people in diaspora, investors, competitive society and institutional buyers.

“We believe those who subscribe to this project today are not just only acquiring homes but are also positioning themselves ahead of the growth curve of Abuja development hub. Our reputation is good on integrity, professionalism, competency and delivery” he said.
