FG’s N50,000 relief election gimmick -ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described the Federal Government’s N50, 000 monthly cash relief for poor Nigerians as an election gimmick.

In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the gesture was driven by desperation ahead of 2027, not concern for suffering Nigerians.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction on Friday announced the N50, 000 monthly relief for vulnerable households to cushion the cost-of-living crisis.

The ADC said the timing raises questions, describing it as a panic reaction to its promise to make life more affordable if it wins the 2027 election. “President Tinubu is in full panic mode. Since the ADC and our candidate Atiku Abubakar made affordability the cardinal focus of our campaign, the government has been announcing one desperate intervention or another,” the party said.

The party questioned what N50,000 can buy under current conditions.

The ADC also queried the fate of previous cash transfers flagged by the Auditor-General. “What happened to findings on billions that could not be accounted for? Have those responsible been held accountable? How can a government that failed to explain previous funds expect Nigerians to trust another programme involving billions?”

“At best, this is an election gimmick designed to deceive Nigerians. At worst, it could become another scheme to siphon public funds under the cover of poverty alleviation,” the statement added.
