•As bandits kill VP, abduct schoolgirls in Kebbi

President Bola Tinubu has vowed to rescue abducted Kebbi schoolgirls and to continue to carry out the duty of protecting lives and property in the country.
In a statement by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris in Abuja, Tinubu reiterated that protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State.
He condemned the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty.
Suspected gunmen believed to be bandits from Zamfara State stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga, located in Danko/Wasagu Local Government and killed the Vice- Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku.
Sources disclosed that the bandits stormed the school late in the night without resistance and caused widespread panic.
President Tinubu expressed concern and solidarity with the families of the female students abducted.
“We share in their pain and are firmly committed to bringing the girls home safely.
“Our security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice.
“The Federal Government will not relent until this objective is achieved. We assure Nigerians that strengthening internal security remains a top priority.

“The Federal Government is recalibrating the nation’s military, policing, and intelligence capabilities to more effectively prevent these attacks and respond with greater speed and precision whenever threats arise.
“Nigeria is also reinforcing cooperation with regional partners through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to secure our borders and disrupt terrorist and criminal networks.
“We urge the public to remain calm and confident,” Tinubu said.
Meanwhile, Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said that police tactical units were deployed and engaged the bandits in a serious gun duel.
He said: “On November 17,2025, at about 4am, information received revealed that, a gang of armed bandits with sophisticated weapons, who were shooting sporadically, stormed Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Danko district, Danko/Wasagu LG of the state.
“The police tactical units deployed to the school engaged them in a gun duel.
Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled through the fence of the school and abducted 25 students from their hostel to an unknown destination. Similarly, one Hassan Makuku was shot dead, while Ali Shehu sustained injury in his right hand.
“Upon receiving the unfortunate incident, a combined team of additional police tactical units, military personnel and Vigilantes have been deployed to the area and they are currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forest, with a view to rescuing the abducted students and possibly arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.”
Abubakar said that the Commissioner of Police, Bello M Sani hads reiterated the Command’s unwavering determination in safeguarding the lives and property of the residents of the state.
He equally appealed to members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and continue supporting police operations for peace and stability to be maintained.
