From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar
The lawmaker representing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Abang says the federal government will intervene in the 115km Ikom-Obudu Federal Highway.
He explained that the road has been captured in the 2026 budget and advised youths to desist from staging protests and blocking the road.
Hon. Abang disclosed this in Calabar during a town hall meeting and constituency briefing for his constituents resident in Calabar.
His response came following protests by youths in the area who staged a peaceful protest along the Ikom-Obudu federal highway, urging relevant authorities to repair the dilapidated Ikom-Obudu road.
Addressing the concerns of the youths, Hon. Abang said, “As much as we sympathize with the youths, the procurement process for road construction is a bit long.
“The state governor Senator Bassey Otu alongside national assembly members have made representation to the federal government and as we speak, adequate provision has been made for the road in the 2026 budget.
“We, as representatives also met with the works minister and we are sure with this and the efforts of the governor the road has been captured”, he said.
