FG postpones inauguration of governing councils for tertiary institutions

From Fred Ezeh, Abuja

Federal Ministry of Education has announced the postponement of the inauguration of pro-chancellors, chairmen and members of the governing councils of federal tertiary institutions.

The inauguration was earlier scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 30, and Friday, May 31, 2024, as was announced when the list of the members of the council was made public a few days ago.

It was also announced that inauguration would be followed by a retreat for the members to acquaint them with what’s expected of them, in addition to their responsibilities, to avoid unnecessary interference/clashes in the day-to-day activities of their respective institutions.

Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, a statement, yesterday, apologised on behalf of the ministry for the inconveniences that the postponement might have caused the people involved.

She explained that the decision was as a result of a recent directive from the presidency demanding for a comprehensive review of the membership of the governing councils of federal tertiary institutions in Nigeria to reflect the national character. The new date will be communicated to all parties.
