The Federal Government has paid N4.25 billion in outstanding pension and severance benefits to 600 additional beneficiaries of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited.
The latest disbursement, covering Batches 010 and 011, amounts to N4,251,043,000.19 in gross benefits, bringing the total number of beneficiaries paid to 3,300 across 11 batches.
The Federal Ministry of Finance disclosed this in a statement issued by its Head of Media, Efe Ovuakporie.
According to the ministry, the first nine batches covered 2,700 beneficiaries, while the latest payment extends the settlement to another 600 former workers and other eligible beneficiaries.
The payments are part of efforts to settle outstanding pension and severance entitlements owed to eligible beneficiaries of the former national carrier, which ceased operations in 2003.
Meanwhile, the ministry said verification and validation of next of kin of deceased former Nigeria Airways workers was ongoing to establish eligibility and confirm claims against approved records.
It added that verified claims would continue to be processed in line with established procedures to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their outstanding entitlements.
The ministry said the latest payment was part of the federal government’s efforts to resolve longstanding obligations to former workers and their families.
