FG unveils NITDA regional office in Enugu to boost Southeast digital innovation

From Jude Chinedu, Enugu

The federal government on Tuesday commissioned the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) regional office in Enugu to enhance digital inclusion and strengthen Nigeria’s tech ecosystem in the Southeast.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, described the facility as a “bridge between national policy and local potential”, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for equitable digital access.

Tijani highlighted Enugu’s emergence as a hub for innovation, stating, “There is something extraordinary unfolding in Enugu. In just under two years, this state has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most promising frontiers for innovation. What we are witnessing here is not just progress, it is momentum.” The NITDA office will support digital skills training, startup growth, regulatory guidance, and collaboration with state governments, academic institutions, and private sectors.

The minister emphasised the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, urging young innovators to leverage the facility. “To our young innovators, developers, and entrepreneurs, you now have a home in NITDA. Use it. Grow through it. And let it become the platform from which your ideas reach the world,” he said. Tijani praised Governor Peter Mbah for fostering a tech-friendly environment, crediting Enugu’s digital transformation for its selection as the regional hub.

Governor Mbah, performing the tape-cutting, underscored the need for economic diversification. “I’ll first of all say that the need and urgency to diversify our economy, both at national and sub-national level has never been more compelling. There are few sectors that hold the opportunities for us to accomplish that like the Information Technology space,” he said.

The event attracted government officials, tech stakeholders, and young innovators optimistic about new opportunities for collaboration and growth in the Southeast.
