The Federal Government and Lagos State will host Nigeria’s first Abuja Dialogue on Youth Leadership on April 13, 2026.

The event, themed: ‘Scaling Excellence: Youth Leadership as Strategic Infrastructure for National Transformation’, is designed as a precursor to the Lagos Leadership Summit.

Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadejia, said the initiative aims to shift youth development from inclusion to structured responsibility.

“While inclusion provides access, responsibility requires preparation,” he said

Hadejia identified training, mentorship, and performance evaluation as key pillars.

Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, described the dialogue as a move to transform youth programmes from palliative to systematic interventions.

She noted that the academy’s model is expanding nationwide with government backing.

Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, affirmed support from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. He stressed the need to prioritise youth development and innovation as national imperatives. Organisers expressed optimism that the dialogue would institutionalise youth leadership development and strengthen capacity for national transformation.
