The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, and the Korean government have trained over 100 civil servants on e-governance in Cross River State.

The training, which is fully funded by the government of Korea, aims to completely digitalise the civil service in Cross River State, cut costs, and ensure transparency in governance.

Speaking on the training, Dr. Justin Beshel said the partnership is consistent with the state government’s policy to bring innovations into government.

He said when it fully takes off, millions of naira will be saved by the government on paper and other forms of printing.

“The present administration is interested in going paperless and digital in the discharge of its duties.

“Every day, papers are rolled out from one small office to the other and this amounts to millions monthly and billions of naira annually.

“The state government will not continue to buy papers and this will reduce the cost of governance.

“The ease with which work is done when we go into e-governance cannot in any way be compared with when we use paper,” he said.

He also disclosed that the training is in its first phase and the state government is looking forward to greater partnerships like this, which will develop the state.

The trainees are expected to pass down the training to other civil servants to deepen the knowledge of e-governance in the service.

They were also given free communication gadgets that will help them in fast-tracking the implementation of e-governance in the state.
