The Federal Government has graduated its first batch of technicians trained to convert petrol-powered vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Borno State.

The two-week intensive training, organised by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) in collaboration with indigenous firm Jennymond System, is part of a nationwide initiative to upskill mechanics and provide cheaper, and cleaner energy alternatives.

Speaking during the closing ceremony in Maiduguri, yesterday, Jennymond System representative, Mr. Oloruntobi James, commended President Bola Tinubu for the initiative. He noted that it offers sustainable economic opportunities for youths.

He revealed that 50 mechanics from the Borno chapter of the Nigeria Automobile Technical Association (NATA) formed the inaugural set.

James urged the beneficiaries to immediately deploy their skills, step down the training to colleagues, and prepare for subsequent phases as government approvals expand. Each graduate received a complete CNG conversion toolbox.

One of the beneficiaries, Adamu Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the Borno State Government. He noted that the hands-on training broadened their technical expertise, specifically on dual-fuel mechanics that allow seamless switching between petrol and CNG when fuel runs out.
