The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has extended the resumption date of academic activities for the 112 Federal Government Colleges to January 12, 2025.
Students of the Federal Government Colleges are currently at home for the Christmas and New Year break. In a circular to principals of the Federal Unity Colleges, dated December 30, 2024, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of FME, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, it was stated that the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad, approved the extension of the resumption date for the second term of the 2024/2025 academic session from January 5th to Sunday, January 12, 2025.
Dr. Sani-Gwarzo disclosed that the extension is due to ongoing renovation works in most of the Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
Thesun.ng learnt that the management of Kings College, Lagos, has not released a breakdown for the resumption of its students.
A parent of Kings College told Thesun.ng that, normally, SS III students preparing for WASSCE, NECO, NABTEB, and UTME resume first and that there is no circular from the school to that effect.
Some parents of Federal Government Colleges are confused following speculation that the ministry has reverted the resumption date to January 5.
However, when our correspondent demanded the circular, none of the parents could provide the new memo from the Federal Ministry of Education.
Currently, parents are busy paying the mandatory fee of N58,000 through the various school portals. SS III students at Kings College are to pay N58,000.
The breakdown includes payment of boarding fees of N30,000, the balance of WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB fees of N11,000. Other fees include N2,000 for medical, ICT training, extra lessons, and utility, and N1,000 for sports, vocational, clubs, societies, and security.
