The Federal Government has disbursed N38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across the country under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund to address infrastructure deficits and improve teaching and learning facilities.

The beneficiaries comprise 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education, according to a statement by the Federal Ministry of Finance yesterday.

A statement, signed by the Federal Ministry of Finance Spokesperson, Efe Ovuakporie, over the weekend, disclosed that universities received N28.5 billion, while polytechnics were allocated N5.8 billion and colleges of education got N4.7 billion.

It said the intervention is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address the needs of public universities and support the implementation of measures agreed upon with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The funds are expected to enable beneficiary institutions to commence or advance approved projects targeting critical infrastructure and other identified institutional needs.

The ministry said the disbursement was aimed at strengthening the quality of tertiary education in the country.

It also stressed the importance of coordination among the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Education and beneficiary institutions to ensure that public funds translate into tangible improvements in educational infrastructure and institutional capacity.

The ministry advised members of the public seeking details of beneficiary institutions and their respective allocations to visit its official website.
