From Shafa’atu Suleiman, Sokoto
The Federal Government has commissioned an Artificial Insemination and Animal Breed Multiplication Centre in Sokoto State to boost livestock production, create jobs and strengthen rural livelihoods.
The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, who inaugurated the centre after laying the foundation for a livestock service facility in the state, said the project is aimed at modernising Nigeria’s livestock sector and improving the economy.
Maiha explained that the centre would provide veterinary services, livestock training, breed improvement and youth empowerment, while also supporting pastoralists and farmers across the North-West.
According to him, the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s plan to reposition the livestock subsector, expand the livestock value chain and integrate service centres into a nationwide network to combat animal diseases and promote sustainable agricultural growth.
The minister expressed appreciation to the World Bank for supporting the Livestock Development Programme, assuring that the ministry would continue to work with development partners to strengthen the livestock industry.
