The federal government has taken a decisive step toward achieving energy self-sufficiency with the release of a far-reaching communique at the close of the 24th NOG Energy Week Conference and Exhibition 2025, a roadmap aimed at ramping oil production to 3 million barrels per day and unlocking full value from its vast gas reserves by 2030.

The landmark event, held in Abuja, drew over 6,600 professionals, 250 exhibitors, and 125 expert speakers from 85 countries. The forum served as a melting pot for government leaders, industry executives, and global partners united in driving Nigeria’s energy transformation.

The communique outlined clear, practical steps anchored on the “Nigeria First” policy, a strategy focused on empowering indigenous operators, strengthening local capacity, and creating an investment-friendly environment to boost production and monetise gas assets.

Wemimo Oyelana, Country Director for dmg Nigeria events, described the 2025 edition as a turning point in aligning national ambition with industry capacity.

“NOG Energy Week 2025 has demonstrated a powerful bridge between policy and performance,” Oyelana said. “Through deep discussions on local content, technology, and investment, we’ve crafted actionable strategies that will transform Nigeria’s energy landscape and drive economic prosperity.”

Reinforcing this, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), stressed that Nigeria’s energy future must be homegrown.

“A nation that seeks energy sufficiency must build from within,” Ogbe noted. “Strengthening local capacity across exploration, production, and processing ensures job creation, value retention, and a secure energy future.”

The event spotlighted key progress milestones. According to NNPC Limited’s Group CEO, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Nigeria secured $17 billion in new energy investments in 2024, with targets of $30 billion by 2027 and $60 billion by 2030. He also announced that all major crude oil pipelines achieved 100 percent operational uptime in June 2025 — a major leap toward energy stability. The completion of the AKK Gas Pipeline River Niger crossing also brings the critical project closer to full delivery by the fourth quarter of 2025.

Discussions underscored the growing strength of indigenous oil companies following the divestment of International Oil Companies (IOCs). Empowered by the Petroleum Industry Act, these local operators are now driving production increases and new investments, leveraging their deep technical expertise and agility.

Gas remained a central focus, with industry leaders calling for accelerated investment in infrastructure to monetise Nigeria’s 200 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves. Initiatives such as the Nigeria–Equatorial Guinea Gas Pipeline and the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund were highlighted as critical to powering industries, improving electricity generation, and expanding LPG adoption across the country.

Technology and talent development also emerged as crucial pillars. Delegates emphasised the shift from mere technology importation to technology domestication — nurturing innovation, research, and collaboration between academia and industry.

To address the ageing workforce challenge, the communique recommended stronger ties between universities and industry, standardised training curricula, and structured internship opportunities for young engineers and technicians.

Organised by dmg Nigeria events in collaboration with key partners, including NNPC Limited, the 2025 edition reinforced NOG Energy Week’s position as West Africa’s most influential energy platform one that shapes policies, secures deals, and fosters sustainable growth across oil, gas, power, and renewables.
