The Federal Government has cancelled all admissions into the National Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programmes of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, for the 2026 academic session over regulatory violations.
The Federal Ministry of Education also directed the institute to discontinue all university affiliations and degree-awarding arrangements, warning prospective students, parents and the public against seeking admission into the affected programmes.
The directive which was contained in a press release dated November 7, 2026, signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, noted that NTI was not authorised to award NCE and university degrees, stressing that no further admissions into the affected programmes would be permitted, whether full-time, part-time or through Distance Learning Studies (DLS).
It consequently warned prospective applicants against applying for the programmes, accepting admission offers or making payments.
The ministry further stated that the action followed violations of the Ministerial Operational Guidelines issued on September 12, 2025.
It clarified that admissions into NCE programmes must comply with the requirements of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and accreditation standards prescribed by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
The National Universities Commission (NUC) was also directed to notify affected universities and ensure compliance with the directive discontinuing NTI’s degree-awarding arrangements.
However, in a move to protect students already enrolled in the institute’s programmes, the ministry said the NCCE would conduct comprehensive accreditation of existing NCE II–IV Distance Learning programmes and study centres across the six geopolitical zones.
It explained that eligible students would be allowed to complete their programmes, subject to accreditation outcomes and applicable regulatory requirements.
The ministry reaffirmed that NTI’s statutory mandate remained teacher training, retraining, in-service development and continuous professional development.
It said the institute was expected to focus on pedagogical capacity-building and the three-to-six-month Special Abridged Programme for serving teachers with non-Education degrees to acquire professional competencies required for registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
It stressed that the intervention was designed to protect students, uphold academic standards and prevent prospective applicants from being exposed to unapproved programmes.
The ministry therefore urged members of the public to verify the accreditation and admission status of educational programmes through relevant regulatory authorities and official government channels before making enrolment or payment decisions.
