The Federal Government has harped on the need for Nigerian youth to acquire at least two skills, saying that is the only way to tackle the alarming rate of unemployment in the country.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, stressed the importance at an event with the theme: “The youth, our present and our future” put together by the City Boy Movement, Edo State chapter, held in Benin.

He said as a government, they believe that skilled youths are great assets to the country because of their numerical strength.

Olawande added that this is why the government focuses its time and resources on skill development by establishing the national youth skill platform which is called Nigeria Youth Academy (NIYA).

The minister said the present administration has impacted positively on the lives of Nigerians through its infrastructure projects, economic reforms, and support for various groups, including women and people with disabilities.

He further appealed to the state governor to ensure that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp remains conducive and the corps members are well taken care of because of their numerous roles to their fatherland.

Speaking also, the Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, described President Bola Tinubu as the real City Boy who, through his bold step, announced the removal of fuel subsidy.

He said Tinubu, as then governor of Lagos State, initiated so many reforms that have made the state what it is today.

Governor Okpebholo pointed out further that the state (Edo) is still resolute on its 3.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election.

On the part of the Director General of Benin City Movement, Edo State chapter, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, he described Monday Okpebholo as one of the political sons of President Bola Tinubu.

He said Okpebholo has made 2027 easy for President Bola Tinubu because of the various projects that he has executed in less than one year in office as governor of the state.

He said under the administration of the current government, no child has been sent home due to inability to pay school fees.

Dr. Iyamu added that the governor has approved huge amount of money for bursary and also given market women in the state money to boost their businesses.

He said all these initiatives would make 2027 election seamless for Tinubu adding that City Boy Movement will do in its power to ensure that Tinubu comes out victorious come 2027.
