The Federal Government, through the National Economic Council (NEC), has approved N3billion for each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to tackle flooding. NEMA’s Head of Media, Manzo Ezekiel, in a statement on Friday, said the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, chaired the NEC meeting.
“The approved disbursements are as follows: N3 billion each to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), N1.5billion to the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning, N1.5billion to the Federal Ministry of Environment, N1.5billion to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, and N10 billion to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),” he said.

The Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, expressed profound appreciation to the vice president and members of the council for the timely and strategic intervention.
She reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to the efficient, transparent, and accountable utilisation of the allocated funds, in line with the agency’s mandate to safeguard lives and livelihoods during emergencies. Umar assured that NEMA would continue to work closely with state governments, relevant ministries, agencies and partners to ensure a well-coordinated, timely, and people-centered flood response across the nation
