The African Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has hailed the significant reduction of bottlenecks along the Lagos–Seme corridor, describing it as a game-changer for commerce, cost efficiency and Nigeria’s regional competitiveness.
Speaking while receiving a recognition award, Dr. Elufioye-Johnson Segun, Chairman of APFFLON’s Seme Chapter, stressed the vital role of the border in Nigeria’s economy. “The Seme border remains a lifeline of trade, culture, and international relations. Our economic growth and competitiveness depend greatly on the smooth operations of its gateways,” he said.
Segun dedicated the honour to “every practitioner, stakeholder, and partner whose contributions have continued to make the Seme border a beacon of possibility and progress.”
He noted that improved efficiency and collaboration among Customs, security agencies, transporters, and private operators have transformed the corridor into a model for trade facilitation.

According to him, the benefits extend far beyond faster clearance. “This achievement is about creating an enabling environment for commerce, reducing costs for businesses, and ultimately boosting Nigeria’s competitiveness in regional and international trade,” he stated.
Segun also pointed to rising awareness among Nigerians about the export opportunities that the Seme border offers. “It is not only an entry point but also a platform for entrepreneurship, job creation, and wealth generation. By sensitising people on the benefits of cross-border trade, more Nigerians are beginning to embrace the global market,” he said.
He urged continued advocacy for fair policies, transparent processes, and accessible opportunities to sustain progress in the sector. “The Seme border is indeed a beautiful gateway to Nigeria’s economy, and by extension, to the future of our great country. A strong and efficient Seme border reflects a strong Nigeria,” Segun added.
He pledged APFFLON’s commitment to working with stakeholders to maintain smooth operations, deepen awareness, and project the Seme border as a gateway of pride for Nigeria’s economy.
