Motorists plying the Lagos–Badagry–Seme Border dual carriageway have expressed relief following the commencement of maintenance work on the failed sections of the road by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Lagos II West Field Office.

The Federal Roads Maintenance Engineer in charge of the Lagos II West Field Office, on behalf of the Managing Director, Chukwuemeka Agbasi, disclosed that the agency had commenced rehabilitation works to ensure smoother and safer movement for road users along the strategic Lagos–Badagry–Seme Border corridor.

According to him, the intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government aimed at preserving critical road infrastructure across the country.

“This maintenance work will continue along this route until we reach the end of the road at the Seme Border, we are committed to this work and we will do it.

“We are clearing the site, reinstating washed-out embankments and recovering collapsed sections of the carriageway.”

He noted that the repairs were necessary to preserve the structural integrity of the highway, which serves as a vital link between Lagos and the Seme Border, facilitating both local and international trade activities.

A road user, Bonu Abiodun, commended FERMA for the intervention, describing the road as one that had been in poor condition for a long time.

“We have witnessed numerous accidents on this road due to its deplorable condition. Now that FERMA has begun maintenance on the critical sections, we are optimistic that road crashes will be significantly reduced,” he said.

The ongoing maintenance works include the reinstatement of embankment washouts, recovery of collapsed sections of the carriageway, provision of sub-base and base courses, laying of binder and wearing courses, as well as lane marking to enhance structural stability and road safety.

FERMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining critical road infrastructure nationwide to ensure safer and more efficient transportation for all Nigerians.
