The Federal High Court has lost one of its retired judges, Justice Baba Gana Ashigar, who died on July 25 after a brief illness.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the Court’s Director of Information, Dr Catherine Oby Christopher, said the retired jurist passed away in Maiduguri, Borno State, and was laid to rest on 26 July 2026 in accordance with Islamic rites.

Justice Ashigar (Rtd) was described as a jurist who served with diligence, dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the administration of justice. According to the statement, his substantial contributions to the Bench and the legal profession will be fondly remembered by his colleagues, members of the outer Bar, court staff, and all who had the privilege of working with him.

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, along with judges, management, and staff of the court, extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s immediate family, praying that Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
