The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to construct two police divisional headquarters in each of the six area councils in Abuja, with a total budget of ₦3.648 billion. The FCTA Director of Security Services, Adamu Gwary, made the disclosure after the first EXCO meeting for 2025.

According to Gwary, the project follows Minister Nyesom Wike’s directive in September 2024 to enhance security by bringing police closer to the people.

The approved plan includes the construction of divisional headquarters and six-man staff quarters for police operatives in the Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Kwali Area Councils.

Gwary stated that this initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Bola Tinubu administration, which aims to provide effective and adequate security for FCT residents.

He added that it fulfils the Minister’s promise to provide security infrastructure to combat crime, particularly in area councils and the hinterland.

Gwary also noted the significant progress made in reducing crime in the FCT and expressed the administration’s commitment to maintaining this effort.

In addition to the police divisional headquarters, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, AbdulKadir Zulkiflu, announced the Exco’s approval of contracts for the construction of a 33KV power supply from Dawaki to Bwari, a solar street lighting system on Arab Road and the U-Shaped Road connecting to Arab Road, and a multi-event sports complex.

The FCT Head of Service, Grace Adayilo, also mentioned the committee’s decision to award a contract for insurance coverage for the FCTA’s movable and immovable assets for 12 months. The policy aims to protect the FCTA’s assets against risks such as damage, loss, or disruption, ensuring government business continuity and minimising financial losses from unforeseen incidents.
