From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja
Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the Administration (FCTA) would commission at least 18 infrastructure projects in Abuja to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.
He made the disclosure yesterday after an inspection tour of several ongoing works across the city, including a three‑storey building in Gudu that collapsed over the weekend.
“We believe these projects, of course, are projects that touch the lives of residents of Abuja, and they will also have a very positive impact on the economy of the FCT.”
Wike said the final tally will be announced by the end of the month, adding: “I think we are doing quite a good job…probably towards 28th of May, we should be able to say the total number of projects that are available. But you know with the way we are going, it will not be less than 20, assuming it doesn’t get to 20, it cannot be less than 18 projects.”

Wike’s inspection included the road and bridge linking the Central Business District and Wuse District, being constructed by Levant Nigeria Limited; the access road to the Mabushi bus terminal by Setraco; and the bridge interchange connecting Jahi and Gwarimpa, being built by CBC Global.
He praised contractors’ efforts while urging quicker completion on some sites, directing Levant to finish its bridge by the first week of June instead of mid‑June.
The planned commissions are billed as urban‑improvement projects aimed at easing traffic, boosting transit links and stimulating economic activity in the FCT. “These are projects that touch the lives of residents of Abuja,” the minister said, framing the inaugurations as deliverables that will be showcased during the administration’s anniversary events.
At the Gudu site, Wike said the FCTA has sealed off the collapsed building and set up a panel to investigate the cause. “We have sealed off the site to preserve evidence and to protect residents,” he said, promising a thorough inquiry and accountability for any negligence.
