The Supervising Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Kuje Area Council election, Abubakar Dambo, said that the delay of the chairmanship result announcement was due to challenges faced.

Dambo stated that results from eight of the ten wards had already been announced, but that the impacted wards, Central and Kabi, were still in the process of collating.

He clarified that a logistical problem involving collation officers was the cause of the delay at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Kuje headquarters.

“We are waiting for the remaining two wards out of ten. The delay is because the collation officers went to the wrong place and had to return to the INEC office before heading back early this morning to complete the collation process.

“I am sure that by now they should be on their way back from Kabi ward,” Dambo said.

Since the outcomes of the other five area councils have already been made public, Kuje is still the only one outstanding.

To avoid a breakdown in law and order, security has been increased in and around the INEC office in Kuje. At the collation center, party agents, reporters, and security guards were seen waiting for Prof. Nkiruka Odoh, the returning officer, to formally announce the winner.
