Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command sprang into action Friday morning after a three-storey building under construction collapsed in Jikwoyi Phase 1, rescuing eight trapped workers as operations continue.
According to a statement issued by FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, a distress call at approximately 9:00 a.m. alerted authorities to the disaster site.
Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi and the Deputy Commissioner of Operations quickly deployed a rescue team, cordoning off the area and initiating a coordinated effort bolstered by NEMA, Nigerian Red Cross, Federal Fire Service, FCT Administration, and CGC Construction Company.

Seventeen workers were on site at the time; eight have been extracted from the debris and rushed to Sisters of the Nativity Hospital in Jikwoyi for treatment, while nine escaped injury. Teams remain on the ground searching for others possibly trapped.
The statement said Sanusi ordered a full investigation with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), vowing to question all involved in site approvals and inspections for accountability.
