The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohanna, in connection with the death of her two-day-old baby in the Jabi area of Abuja.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement, said the lifeless body of the male infant was found abandoned in a bush near Jabi on October 4, 2026, with deep wounds on the throat and abdomen.
Adeh said the Command received a distress call at about 10:30pm on October 4, reporting the discovery of an abandoned baby in a bush in the area.
According to her, police operatives from the Jabi Division immediately mobilised to the scene, recovered the lifeless body of the infant and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.
The statement read in part:
“The FCT Police Command, on the 4th of October, 2026, at approximately 10:30pm, received a distress call reporting the discovery of an abandoned baby in a nearby bush in Jabi area of the FCT.
“Responding to the report, police operatives from Jabi Division were promptly deployed to the scene, where the lifeless body of a male infant was recovered with deep wounds on the throat and abdomen. The infant was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical team on duty.

“Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, ordered a manhunt for the suspect responsible for the act.
“With the assistance of members of the immediate community, one Ms Precious Yohanna, 27 years old, a native of Riyam in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State and resident of Daki-Biu/Jabi area of the FCT, was traced and arrested in connection with the crime.”
Adeh said further investigation revealed that Yohanna, who is the mother of the deceased infant, gave birth to the baby inside her room on October 3, 2026, at about 4pm.
She said the suspect allegedly used a razor blade to inflict the fatal injuries on the newborn, adding that she reportedly told investigators that she committed the act out of hatred for the baby’s father.
The CP, while commending members of the community for their assistance in identifying and arresting the suspect, condemned the incident and described it as a grave violation of the sanctity of human life.
He assured members of the public that the Command would conduct a thorough investigation into the case and ensure that the suspect, who remains in police custody, is charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, activities or incidents to the nearest police station.
