The leadership crisis rocking the Federal Capital Territory chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has deepened leading to the impeachment of the president of the chapter, Ifeanyichukwu, Obasi Nweze, and four other executives by the General Assembly of the body over alleged corrupt practices.

The impeachment was moved by the Vice Youth leader of the Abuja chapter, Aroh Nwafor, and seconded by the rest of the members.

According to the group the decision was in line with the bylaws of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, FCT chapter as amended in 2019.

They explained that the impeachment followed the recent activities and refusal of Mr Nweze to submit himself for a session with the disciplinary committee set up to look into his alleged misdemeanors in line with article 16 (a) of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT Bylaws as amended 2019.

The group, therefore, stated the following grounds as reasons for the removal of Mr. Nweze from office as the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo; General Secretary, Mr. Marcel, Ezenwa Iheme, Imo State; the Vice President, Mr. Ifeanyi Mike Odittah – Delta State and the Vice Women Leader – Anambra State, Hon. Chinyere Ezenwokike Offor.

They alleged that the President of the Abuja chapter failed to convene proper meetings and render a financial account since 2024 Igbo Day/Colloquium held on Sunday, 29th September, 2024.

Other allegations cited were: “Failure to release the money saved by members purposely for December 2024/Christmas celebration.

“Secretly and unlawfully withdrawing and misappropriating over N15m belonging to the entire members of Ohaneze Ndigbo and sharing the same among themselves.

“Intimidating, cyber stalking, defaming, threatening and exiting members who dare to ask questions or demand accountability or presentation of financial accounts from the platform.

“Fragrant disobedience of our elder statesman and Chairman of the Elders Council of Ohaneze Ndigbo, FCT chapter, Sir Dr. Mike M. Okiro, who severally requested that they should call for a general meeting and present transparent financial account to members and others.”

The group, therefore, resolved that the Deputy President, Hon. Ken Nnamadi – Enugu State, shall remain the acting President until Ebonyi State presents another person that would complete the tenure of the impeached president.

“The same goes to Imo State for the General Secretary, Delta State for Vice President and Anambra State for Vice Women Leader,” it stressed.
