Preparatory to its National Convention, scheduled to take place in Abia State in a couple of days, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Labour Party has elected its state executives over the weekend, alongside those of other states.

The Congress, was attended and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with electoral guidelines. It was also well-attended by party faithful from the six Area Councils of the FCT.

Speaking on the sidelines of the forthcoming party conversation in Abia State, the newly elected Chairman of the Labour Party in the FCT Mr. Joshua Mamah, said that the new executive members would embark on an aggressive membership drive to ensure that the party prepares well for the next elections.

On the other hand, he said the LP, may not at the moment dwell on fielding a Presidential candidate but should focus on the membership drive, but will dwell. on reconciling aggrieved members of the party.

“What I am saying is that many have left the labour for other parties but we are still here believing that we will overcome the storm. Right now we’re in a political storm and the outcome of this Congress is a testament that the party is getting back on its feet. As you can see Mr. Peter Obi left the party and into extinction but we are still here'” he said.

Also speaking, newly elected LP youth leader in the FCT Mr. Inks Ekpo promised total mobilization of FCT youths to the party. He said the efforts made during the 2023 election must be surpassed to ensure that Nigeria returns to good governance.

“In any government, be it good or bad the youths are always at the receiving end. So we are at the party to help vote in a youth-oriented person for the creation of employment and economic prosperity.
