The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised and assured Federal Capital Territory (FCT) voters that the Area Council election will begin at 8:30 a.m., as scheduled.

Samuel Bassey, Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, FCT INEC, made the pledge on Friday during an interview with Arise Television.

The FCT Area Council election is slated for February 21, 2026 (today), with INEC declaring its willingness to hold free, fair, and credible elections.

“I guarantee and assure FCT voters that the polls will commence at 8:30am as stipulated,” he said.

According to him, materials and personnel have already been transported overnight to prevent late commencement.

Bassey noted that the initiative aims to largely eliminate delays, guaranteeing that polling will begin on time as stipulated by guidelines.

The FCT INEC HOD of Voter Education and Publicity further stated that with the initiatives put in place, late commencement had been significantly addressed, if not eliminated.
