The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Abaji Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Announcing the results on Sunday, the Presiding Officer, Muhammad Usman, said Abubakar polled 15,535 votes to defeat his closest rival from the Young Progressives Party (YPP), who secured 5,357 votes.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate garnered 4,547 votes, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) received 53 votes and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 37 votes.

Declaring the result, Usman stated: “Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of APC, having satisfied the requirement by the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
The declaration came less than 24 hours after voting concluded on Saturday, 21 February 2026. The election was conducted across all six FCT area councils Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Kwali.
Apart from Abaji, the APC also secured victories in Kwali, AMAC and Bwari, while the PDP won in Gwagwalada.
