Fast rising Nollywood actress Favour Dike, has shared insights into her journey as an actor, her favorite roles, and her thoughts on the Nigerian film industry.
In an encounter with Sunnewsonline, the soft spoken script Interpreter who grew up with a passion for art and acting, said her journey into the movie making industry kicked off with the help of a friend.
Starting out as a child actor in Lagos, Favour Dike later moved to Delta State and discovered that Nollywood had a base in Asaba, making it possible for her to continue pursuing her passion.
When asked about her favorite roles, Dike shared that she loves playing roles that display African culture and heritage, as well as romantic and love roles. She also enjoys playing antagonizing wife, sister, and friend roles, as they appeal to her in emotional ways.
Regarding the representation of Nigerian culture in Nollywood movies, Dike expressed her appreciation for cultural roles that preserve and promote Nigerian culture.
She also expressed a desire for foreign film industries like Hollywood and Bollywood to collaborate with Nollywood to create even more impactful and authentic films.
Dike explained her process for preparing for roles, which includes reading and studying her scripts, doing exercises like gymnastics and meditation, and using method acting and mind focusing techniques to bring her characters to life.
As for working with directors and fellow actors on set, Dike emphasized the importance of listening to her director and her fellow actors, as it helps her give her best performance and create a cohesive and authentic portrayal.
When it comes to what makes a great movie, Dike highlighted the importance of all the elements of filmmaking, including acting, directing, writing, cinematography, and overall production value, coming together to tell a compelling story.
Dike has faced challenges as an actor, including the competition for roles and biases towards fair-complexioned actors, but she has overcome them through hard work and determination. She stays motivated and continues to learn and grow in her craft by enrolling in various professional courses.
Looking to the future of the Nigerian film industry, Dike sees a bright and promising future for the industry and encourages aspiring actors to join in producing, as she has done with her own production company, Black Queens Visuals.
Her advice to aspiring actors is to focus on working hard and studying, rather than making money, as the money will come with an improvement in their performance.
Dike has starred in numerous films, including International Tailor, Unholy Siblings, and Confession Box, and continues to be a force in the Nigerian film industry.
