Father allegedly chains son for 17 years in Bauchi

A man, Mohammed Lawan has been arrested in Bauchi after allegedly chaining his son identified as Muhammad Lawan, better known as Babangida, for 17 years.

The incident occurred in Shadawanka village, Bauchi Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, February 16.

Spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Habib said the middle-aged victim was rescued following a tip provided by a Good Samaritan.

He said a team of detectives from the Bauchi State Police Command, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘B’ Division, accompanied by the Spokesperson visited the residence where the victim was confined.

Habib added that the police team found the victim in an emaciated state and rescued him.

He said the victim’s father was arrested and detained while the victim was taken to hospital for medical attention.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed the DPO to carry out a preliminary investigation into the incident.

The commissioner further ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation into the alleged inhumane treatment.
