Rev. Charles Fashola, the new District Overseer of Pleasure Missionary District Foursquare Gospel Church, who is also the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman in Council, McPherson University, has attributed his strength as the new (DO) and achievements to God and emphasised the importance of gratitude and called on Nigerians, Religious Institutions to setting clear their priorities in whatever they want to do right.
“Set your priority right,” he said, stressing the need for individuals and organisations to understand where they were going before putting strategies in place to achieve their objectives.
The cleric/convener stated this at the first District Convocation and District Anniversary of Foursquare Gospel Church, Pleasure District, in Lagos.
The Pleasure Missionary District was recently elevated to a full-fledged district and declared Rev Charles Fashola as its New District Overseer.
During the inauguration, the elevation was described as the development as an expression of God’s faithfulness, noting that the district had surpassed the required 1,000-member benchmark, with its membership rising to about 1,500.
Fashola continued to urge members to define their objectives, determine what they wanted to achieve and establish practical measures for accomplishing their goals.
“Set your priority right,” he said, stressing the need for individuals and organisations to understand where they were going before putting strategies in place to achieve their objectives.
His wife, Rev. Mrs Tolulope Fashola, President of the Pastors’ Wives and Lady Ministers of the district, also expressed gratitude to God for the growth recorded by the church.
She said the district had moved from a missionary district to a fully-fledged district within a year, describing the achievement as evidence of God’s grace.
According to her, managing people could be challenging because individuals had different personalities and expectations.
She thanked the women in the district, particularly the wife of the District Secretary, for their support and commitment.
“I want to show my gratitude to God for giving us the enablement to come together and learn to be able to thrive on this journey. A tree cannot make a forest,” she said.
Rev. Ibukun Akinwale, Chairman of the District Convocation, said the achievement recorded by the church demonstrated God’s faithfulness and the effectiveness of teamwork.
Akinwale disclosed that the national leadership of the church regularly conducts assessments of its districts and said the Pleasure Missionary District emerged first in the most recent assessment.
He clarified that the result was not an indication that the district was better than others, but said it reflected the progress made through unity and collective effort.
“We are not saying we are better than anybody. For what God has done, we saw His faithfulness,” he said.
He urged the newly ordained deacons and deaconesses to maintain the strategies and spirit of teamwork that contributed to the district’s progress.
The four-day programme was marked by spiritual teachings and activities aimed at promoting spiritual growth.
The event was also a three-fold celebration, marking the first District Convocation, first District Anniversary and the upgrade of the Pleasure Missionary District from a missionary district to a full-fledged district.
The occasion also featured the ordination of two deacons, three deaconesses and one elder.
The grand finale attracted church leaders and guests from different walks of life, with Abraham representing the General Overseer. He also serves as the Axis Coordinator for the Ikeja Axis.
