The family of Simbiat Abiola Jattu has raised the alarm that she has been missing four months after unsuccessful efforts to locate her whereabouts.
According to her aunt, Mrs Yemi Bada, all attempts to establish contact or obtain credible information about her safety had proved abortive since September 11, 2024, when she disappeared.
Prior to her disappearance, she reportedly confided in her aunt about her personal struggles, stating that she was not interested in marriage, but was allegedly compelled by her parents to get married.
She later got married in 2021 and the marriage produced a baby boy. The family further stated that after the birth of the child, she and her husband travelled to the United Kingdom.
While abroad, she allegedly complained of repeated domestic violence, molestation and threats to her life by her husband. The complaints, according to her aunt, were communicated to both relatives and close associates. It was gathered that following persistent complaints, members of her family intervened to resolve the matter amicably.
However, during a subsequent visit to her husband’s residence to check on her, the husband reportedly informed her aunt that she had left the house several months earlier and had not returned.
Before leaving Nigeria, she was said to have resided at No. 27, Ajelogo Street, Alapere, Ketu, Lagos.
Since her disappearance on September 11, 2024, her location has remained unknown, heightening fears over her safety and well-being. The family has expressed deep concern that her disappearance may be connected to the earlier allegations of threats to her life, domestic abuse and her sexual orientation, which they believe placed her at heightened risk. They have called on relevant authorities and humanitarian organisations to assist in investigating the matter and ensuring her protection.
